2021 Internship
Media Production/Coordination Intern
with the International Western Music Association
About The Job:
My Responsiblities:
Over the summer of 2021 I was given the opportunity to work with the Kansas Chapter of the International Western Music Association. Specifically, I was hired to do public relations and media production work for the 2021 Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest.
This contest is an annual showcase of western musicians and wordsmiths who honor the agricultural traditions of yesterday, western heritage, and the farm and ranch lifestyle. Contestants come from a large population of men, women and children from all over the Midwest.

The work I did while employed by the IWMA was split into two sections. When I first began my internship, my job was mainly focus around working with our contest committee members on public relations projects and communication with potential contestants. This work included creation of a new website to centralize information for the contest, the creation and release of several press release for IWMA members, the creation of several social media graphics for use by the commttiee members and communication to all participating contestants to assist them in resolving technical issues.
The second half of the internship mainly revolved around the editing and posting of contestants' video submissions for presentation to contest committee members and our panel of judges. In addition to this, I am continuing to assist the Kansas Chapter of the IWMA in outreach research to continue to grow the contest and reach more potential contestants in the coming years.
Work Examples
Two of the best places to see some of the work I've done, are on the contest website I created earlier this summer and at the contest's official YouTube channel, both of which are linked above. However, I've also added some examples of the press releases, social media graphics and certificate designs done throughout my time with the IWMA.

Award Certificates

I was given the opportunity to design the award certificates that winning contestants would receive. In total, I designed fifteen different certificates, all of which were later signed by Governor Laura Kelly.
I wanted to include one of my favorite of the entries we had while I was managing the contest. This piece (My Barn Sour Bay) was performed by previous contest winner, Scott Wiswell.
